The World Uses a Variety of Different Energy Sources

The world has a myriad of energy sources. Fossil-based https://leonardogiombini.it/2018/10/19/i-vantaggi-delle-centrali-energetiche/ fuels such as natural gas, oil, and coal–accounted to more than 80 percent of the energy consumed in 2018. Renewables, like solar power, wind, biomass and hydroelectricity, account for 14 percent. Nuclear energy accounts for another 5percent. Different countries use different sources of energy to meet the environmental and economic demands.

Nature’s energy comes in many forms such as wind, sun, waves and ocean. These sources of energy are transformed into more convenient forms of energy, like electricity or heat, once they are harnessed. These energy sources become non-renewable sources of energy once they have been exhausted.

The environment is harmed by many fossil fuels in addition to other sources of energy that are not renewable. For example, mining for oil can degrade the world’s forests. Fracking (hydraulic fracturing) can lead to earthquakes and water pollution. Burning coal releases carbon dioxide, contributing to global warming.

Fortunately, some of the most promising energy sources are sustainable and renewable. Solar, wind, and hydropower can generate, for instance electricity without digging for new sources.

Tidal and Wave Power are two other renewable energy sources that are emerging. To be used on large scale, these sources of energy require effective distribution networks. These must be built, which requires the use of non-renewable energy sources. This means that these sources are not yet sufficient to meet the majority of our energy requirements. It’s still important to remember that the cost of renewable energy equipment have fallen dramatically in recent years and the efficiency is rising.
